We are seeking a skilled and proactive General Maintenance Operative to support the ongoing upkeep and maintenance of our supported housing portfolio. The role involves reactive and planned maintenance coordination, void management, and ensuring properties meet required health and safety standards. This is a hands-on, mobile position ideal for a reliable, multi-skilled tradesperson with a commitment to quality service and resident welfare.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake general maintenance, repairs, and property upkeep across the residential sites
Prioritise and respond swiftly to reactive maintenance needs, in addition to logging reported issues
Manage void (empty) properties, ensuring efficient clean and clearance operations post-tenancy
Oversee and liaise with external contractors for planned works outside of internal capabilities
Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with health & safety and housing standards
Ensure works are carried out to an agreed standard and schedule as directed by management
Work collaboratively with support workers and coordinators to resolve resident maintenance concerns
Respond flexibly to emergency maintenance situations
Report compliance issues to administration, including health & safety breaches
Support a high standard of property readiness for re-letting
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in general property maintenance, ideally in supported housing or similar for five years minimum.
Multi-skilled (basic plumbing, joinery, painting/decorating, etc.)
Strong understanding of health and safety requirements in residential settings
Ability to work independently and manage own workload
Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle during probation - van to be provided after successful completion, (mileage/fuel reimbursement)
Understanding of safeguarding principles and working with vulnerable adults & previous experience ideal
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Empathetic, non-judgmental, and professional in conduct
Resilient under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to out-of-hours needs when required
