Lee Abbey is seeking to appoint a Maintenance Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to join Lee Abbey's Maintenance Team. We are looking for someone with multiple maintenance skills with a background across multiple trades. Applicants should have experience and a proven track record of being able to work proactively. We are looking for a team player, able to work as part of a small team to provide general maintenance and repair to Lee Abbey buildings, facilities, and equipment. The role is rewarding. We are on the lookout for someone who is a self-starter, who has maintenance skills, possess energy and passion to tend to our buildings.
Lee Abbey exists to welcome guests, to take part in Christian retreats, conferences, and holidays. It is run by an international Christian Community of approximately 50 people. Our guests pay to come and stay and expect a consistent standard of accommodation that reflects our stated aim to be God's Welcome. The Estate comprises of 31 individual buildings and associated infrastructure set within 280 acres of mixed wild, agricultural and built environment.
The Maintenance Team plays a key part in delivering those standards and ensuring the built environment is safe and well managed at all times. The team cover all aspects of routine buildings maintenance work and are also responsible for Lee Abbey's private water supply and sewage treatment works, as well as overseeing the effective delivery of key projects each year.
Working as part of the Team, be proactive and keen to develop and cover routine and day to day maintenance, reporting to the Head of Maintenance to carry out a range of maintenance and improvement projects using a variety of skills.
The Lee Abbey buildings and estate have a rich historical and environmental heritage. Duties should be carried out in a way which is consistent with the Christian attitude to conservation and sustainability as far as possible.
Responsibilities
Carry out all work in compliance with relevant building standards and regulations, the HSAW act and all wildlife legislation that affects buildings, and Health & Safety regulations.
Plan and carry out work on a variety of energy-efficiency work, in liaison with the Head of Maintenance.
Employ a variety of practical skills to undertake work.
Employ knowledgebase to advise, oversee and be able to work with other contractors and to advise Head of Maintenance on any related issues.
Working with Head of Maintenance to ensure there is a process and a plan for delivering the agreed work targets.

Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing in English to people of all nationalities and cultures who may not have English as their first language.
Flexibility required to co-ordinate all aspects of this role are vital to ensure smooth operation. The main house is Grade II listed; an understanding of historic structures would therefore be of benefit.
Good physical health is required as much of the work to be undertaken will be manual.
Flexibility for weekend maintenance cover on a rota basis.
Basic Safeguarding and DBS Certificate.
This role is a full-time position but we would be open to part-time hours for the right candidate.
