The Major Projects Director will lead Mabey Hire's strategic sales activity for large-scale, complex infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. The role is accountable for securing high-value contracts, developing long-term strategic relationships, and driving sustainable year-on-year growth of the major projects budget.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Strategic Growth
Develop and deliver the major projects sales strategy to achieve agreed revenue, margin and year-on-year growth targets.
Identify, develop and secure opportunities within infrastructure, civil engineering and large-scale construction sectors that align with the long-term strategic objectives of the business.
Develop and implement strategies to ensure continued growth of the major projects budget.
Engineering Positioning & Market Presence
Proactively position Mabey Hire's engineering capability on large-scale, complex projects through engineering CPDs, attendance at temporary works forums and regular engagement with customers' Heads of Engineering.
Strengthen Mabey Hire's profile as a technically competent and innovative solutions provider within the major projects market.
Client Engagement & Commercial Management
Build and maintain senior-level relationships with Tier 1 contractors, government bodies and key stakeholders to establish Mabey Hire as a strategic partner of choice.
Lead negotiations for complex, high-value contracts, ensuring commercial robustness and long-term profitability.
Liaise closely with the Sales Director and Commercial Director on tenders and commercial proposals to ensure competitiveness across all major projects
Major Project Oversight
Provide commercial and strategic oversight of major projects to ensure successful delivery in line with contractual, financial and operational commitments.
Monitor project performance, budgets and risk, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and governance standards.
Work collaboratively with engineering, operations and logistics teams to ensure seamless project execution
Team Leadership, Development & Structure
Lead and develop the major projects team in line with the agreed major projects organogram, ensuring clarity of roles, responsibilities and accountability.
Support the development of team capability through mentoring, performance management and succession planning.
Facilitate an effective feedback loop between the major projects team and the product development function to support the creation of new products and solutions required to drive growth in the major projects market.
Governance, Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
Prepare and present monthly performance reports aligned to agreed KPIs and targets to the Sales Director and Board.
Maintain effective communication with senior stakeholders across the business to ensure alignment on strategy, performance and priorities

What You Need
Proven Sales and Major Project/Business Development Experience within the temporary workers/construction sector
Proven track record of delivering revenue growth through major projects and business development
Established network of key clients across the industry
Strong leadership skills
Experience operating as a Major Projects Manager, Business Development Manager or Senior Sales Manager
Experience working with technical drawings, specifications and non mechanical/hydraulic equipment
