Role Summary:
The Management Accountant will be responsible for producing timely and accurate management accounts for a six-company group, maintaining key cash and forecasting models, and ensuring strong control over balance sheet reconciliation, payroll, and day-to-day cash management. The role includes responsibility for statutory and compliance reporting (VAT, covenants, corporation tax payments), liaising with auditors, and supporting elements of purchase ledger and operational billing.
This is a hands-on role requiring both technical strength and the ability to manage and develop a small team.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce monthly management accounts for a six-company group, including commentary and variance analysis.
Prepare and maintain the monthly three-statement forecast (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow).
Own and oversee daily cash and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
Support cashflow planning and maintain clear visibility of working capital movements across the group.
Prepare and review the monthly payroll reconciliation, ensuring payroll costs reconcile to the ledger and variances are understood and addressed.
Process and manage mileage payments, ensuring proper approval and accurate recording.
Liaise with external auditors and lead on audit preparation, including producing year-end backing schedules and responding to audit queries.
Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns for a partially exempt group, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting. Make monthly and annual VAT payments as required, ensuring adherence to deadlines and appropriate documentation.
Maintain the
fixed asset register
for three companies, ensuring accurate depreciation, disposals, and additions are recorded and reconciled.
Line manage a team of
three
, providing day-to-day support, prioritisation, performance management and development.
Allocate work effectively and ensure robust controls and process continuity across the team.
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in a Management Accountant or similar finance role, ideally within a multi-entity/group structure.
Strong experience producing monthly management accounts and three-statement forecasting.
Experience preparing VAT returns (or ability to learn quickly in a complex VAT environment.
Excellent balance sheet reconciliation and controls experience.
Demonstrable ability to manage cashflow models and daily bank reconciliations.
Desirable:
Experience in care, healthcare, social care, or another regulated service environment.
Familiarity with partial exemption VAT rules and/or covenant reporting.
Experience working with property income billing or service charge recharge models.
Qualifications:
Part-qualified or fully qualified accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA) preferred, or equivalent proven experience.
