Job summary
As the Defence integrator, Strategic Command (UKStratCom) sits at the heart of Defence, giving us the winning edge in an ever-uncertain and competitive world. Every single operation relies on the connectivity and skills we offer the whole of the Armed Forces.The UKStratCom Finance Function supports multiple Service Directorates - the Headquarters; Defence Medical Services; Defence Intelligence; Defence Digital; Special Forces; National Cyber Force; Directorate of Overseas Bases; Defence Support; and Permanent Joint Headquarters. Following implementation of Finance Transformation (FinTx) in January 2025, the function is now made up of over 180 finance personnel across Finance Operations, Specialist Services, Finance Business Partnering Teams and Finance Military Operations.
Management Reporting (Consolidation) team sit at the heart of the finance function and are the link between Strategic Finance centre, business areas and finance business partners, ensuring that requirements, submissions and instructions are fit for purpose for all stakeholders. The team supports the senior leadership team by summarising all activities and providing higher level insight to aid decision making.

Job description
Management Reporting are expected to produce the monthly financial reports to meet their business area(s) and Finance Business Partner's needs. Ensuring that financial reporting is accurately completed both within corporate reporting systems and for input of accounting entries to support decision making. Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Providing insight to the Business, Finance Leadership Team, and wider Finance teams
Providing the consolidated financial position at various levels within the organisation. Utilising information obtained from Finance Business Partner reviews to provide a draft of commentary, subject to the relevant endorsement.
Producing standardised reports / dashboards for monthly financial reviews and ABC screenings along with supplementary information to the FBP and FLT as appropriate.
Optimising Performance
Enabling self service capabilities where possible, allowing individuals access to information without any intervention.
Although team members may support specific Business area(s), all team members will be expected to be flexible and cover Business areas as required.
Routine Requirements
Producing instructions for completion of both IYM and ABC, outlining agreed internal timelines for completion taking into account Strategic Head Office requirements.
Delivering the required information ensuring outputs are accurate, timely and meet the expected standards for:
o Month end activities, ensuring your team utilise the correct accounting entries completed in compliance with relevant internal and wider government policy and a robust audit trail maintained.
o Input of budget profiles into corporate reporting systems, validating these are sufficiently robust to form the baseline for future progress measurement.
o Corporate system input is consistently delivered for your business area(s) for all aspects of ABC and IYM.
o Producing standardised templates / forms for recurring requests, advising what information is required and enabling efficient review, ensuring this aligns to the required policy where applicable.
Financial approvals of low value items, such as working functions, training, and professional subscriptions, supporting your team as required. Ensuring compliance with the relevant processes and policies and that an appropriate procurement route is utilised.
Engaging with the Business where evidence for manual accruals is insufficient and flagging issues, by exception, to the appropriate Finance Business Partner.
Ensuring all misbookings are to be corrected at source, removing any need for future manual intervention. Engaging with Project and Commercial staff to resolve any issues and work towards a right first-time input.
Establishing and ensuring effective controls are in place to maintain accuracy of data in financial systems and provide assurance on integrity of information on financial systems
Reviewing the Chart of Accounts, liaising with other parts of Finance to understand emerging requirements. Ensuring the structure remains current and consistent, verifying new requirements as legitimate.
Managing your team to maintain corporate systems access for all Finance Staff.
Continuous improvement
Dedicating time to sharing best practice and ideas for refining standardised processes and procedures.

Person specification
Essential
An excellent leader and manager, who will empower their team to deliver whilst providing support and guidance to develop them, you will lead colleagues across Finance and the Service Directorates through significant change to ways of working, process re-engineering, automation, training and tooling.
Significant Experience in a Finance environment with an ability to understand and interpret complex business and financial requirements and management information.
A strong communicator, with the ability to discuss with various stakeholders, from finance and non-finance functions
Desirable
Level 4 qualification with AAT, CCAB or CIMA, or working towards qualification CCAB, CIMA or equivalent and financial experience over an extended period.
An understanding of how MOD / Strategic Command Strategic operates given the breadth and diversity and its highly delegated model.
Experience of Agile Delivery and Scrum.
An excellent ability to balance a range of competing priorities drawing on good judgement, initiative and able to coordinate the team accordingly.
A self-starter capable of working independently from high-level strategic direction.
Strong written and oral briefing skills.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.
