Manager Energy Market Design And Policy

London, United Kingdom

Job Description

Manager - Energy Market design and Policy

Overview:
We set out to build the world\'s most trusted consulting firm - creating lasting impact for clients and pioneering a positive, people-first way of working. We work with everyone from FTSE 100 names to bright new start-ups, in every sector.

You\'ll find us collaborating shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, from the big picture right down to the detail: helping them define their strategy, deliver complex change, spot the right commercial opportunities, manage risk or bring their purpose and sustainability goals to life. Our clients love how we get to know what makes their businesses tick - slotting seamlessly into their teams and being proudly geeky about solving their challenges.

We have hubs in Europe, the US, Asia and Australia, and we work all around the world - from a wind farm in Wyoming to a boardroom in Berlin. Find us wherever there\'s a challenge to be tackled and an impact to be made.

Baringa believe that diversity is paramount to driving creativity, innovation, and value for our clients and for our people, and creating an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging is central to our culture.

Our Policy, Regulation and Economics practice are looking for an experienced Manager to join the team

Our clients face the corporate world\'s biggest challenges while delivering society\'s most crucial project - the energy transition to net zero carbon emissions. We help policy makers develop decarbonisation policy and help private sector clients shape their decarbonisation strategy, securing energy needs, driving investment in future energy technologies, and capturing market opportunities to reach society\'s biggest goal.

What will you be doing?

You will work at the forefront of energy policy, supporting governments and regulators to design and deliver energy market policy and industry change. You will support private client sectors to assess the impacts on them, influence policy direction and tailor decarbonisation strategies.

You will work with specialists from across Baringa, combining your own deep industry knowledge with insight from experts in other fields to bring the best of Baringa to our clients.

You will manage a variety of high-profile projects. For example, you could be:

  • Delivering expert policy advice to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) on reforms proposed under its Review of Electricity Market Arrangements (REMA), retail market reform and/or network price control policy
  • Supporting energy market participants to understand the direction of energy policy and market design, identifying potential impacts on their business models
  • Providing clients with evidence-based recommendations to inform their company strategy and their responses to change
  • Reshaping energy sector institutions to support rapid transition of the energy sector
  • Working with market modelling colleagues to support development of Baringa\'s analytical tools for energy market design
  • Advising international energy sector participants on policy and reform in their jurisdictions.
So, what are we looking for?

We are looking for people who are proudly geeky about the energy sector and decarbonisation, with experience working in consulting, policy development, regulation or in industry. Our main focus is on the UK and Ireland but we\'re also interested in any international experience you may bring to the role.

You will have experience managing complex projects, ideally related to energy market policy, design and/or analysis. You will be comfortable managing projects and people, leading engagement with clients and developing high quality outputs with a good level of autonomy. You will be enthusiastic about supporting the development of the business, helping to develop leads, win bids and continue to grow our highly motivated team.

You will bring experience of several of the following:
  • Managing projects/teams in the energy sector taken from consultancy, policy/regulation or in industry
  • A background in economics, regulation, policy or a closely related discipline
  • Knowledge of and interest in ongoing market reform in Great Britain, and internationally
  • An understanding of power market fundamentals
  • Supporting policy makers with development of decarbonisation policy and/or supporting market participants with their decarbonisation strategy
  • A balanced set of quantitative and qualitative skills and the ability to apply energy market fundamentals to new situations. You should have some experience of using outputs from economic/financial models to develop insight (though you do not need to be a specialist modeller)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts to non-specialist audiences, whatever the medium
  • Ambition to develop your career in a growing and highly motivated team
  • A willingness to take ownership of a diverse range of initiatives including project work, business development and internal initiatives to ensure Baringa continues to be a great place to work
So, what\'s in it for you?

Well, it\'s up to you. Baringa is what you make it.
  • Promotion is solely based on your own performance, and we give you every opportunity to progress by having four promotional reviews a year
