We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Managing Associate General Counsel, Head of Global Banking Infrastructure, Export and Asset Finance Legal.

The successful candidate will lead a team of lawyers that provides legal advice, origination support and transaction execution services to the Global Banking Infrastructure, Export and Asset Finance businesses (\xe2\x80\x9cIEAF\xe2\x80\x9d) based in London, Paris, Dusseldorf, MENAT and the Americas (excluding USA).

The primary role of the IEAF Legal team is to support the structuring and execution of export finance, asset finance, growth markets and infrastructure/ project financing transactions. In addition, the IEAF Legal team partners with the IEAF business on regulatory developments, new product governance and development and the delivery of IEAF\xe2\x80\x99s key strategic objectives in green and sustainable finance.

The role will report into the Head of Global Banking Legal UK and Europe and will be part of the leadership team within Global Banking Legal, contributing on global/ regional issues and leadership actions.

In this role, the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s responsibilities will include:

  • leading and managing the IEAF Legal team and acting more broadly as a leader within Global Banking Legal;
  • being the trusted and senior advisor to the global heads of the IEAF business and their senior leadership team;
  • taking a leadership role in sustainable finance initiatives or transactions undertaken by the IEAF business or more broadly within Global Banking, and in related regulatory developments and trade association initiatives;
  • evaluating and responding to other changes in regulatory and legal requirements insofar as they affect the IEAF business and transactions;
  • leading the review and negotiation of finance documentation for cross-border export credit, project, infrastructure and asset finance transactions (with involvement from pitch phase to completion, and thereafter), alongside origination teams;
  • reviewing, internal escalation and resolution of legal, reputational and other internal issues impacting IEAF transactions (including attendance at relevant governance forums); and
  • managing the relationships with the various internal and external stakeholders involved in IEAF transactions (including law firms and the export credit agencies).
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
  • Qualified Lawyer,
  • Essential experience either as a project finance or export finance specialist (or both), and to have a strong interest in sustainable finance.
  • Experience managing and leading a specialized team of lawyers
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving ability
  • Being able to deal with new and unexpected situations
  • Ability to prioritize workloads in terms of legal risk and commercial consideration.
  • Maintain knowledge of HSBC Group operations and policies.
  • Ability to think independently being mindful of maintaining an appropriate balance between management and mitigation of legal risk and business efficacy.
The base location for this role is London, UK.
