About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our outstanding Major Projects team to work at our Old Oak Common development in London - join us and be part of the largest construction project in the UK.
HS2s new c. 1 billion Old Oak Common station will become the UKs best-connected rail station once completed. Our Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA joint venture will be responsible for the final design, construction, and commissioning of the station in Northwest London.
Upon completion, the new station will boast six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. Old Oak Common will also provide highspeed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, and the North, as well as direct services to three major airports. Incorporating passenger and retail facilities, the new station will provide an exceptional customer experience for both passengers and visitors to the station.
What you'll be doing
All duties required by the commercial department or project team, to ensure successful
setup and running of the Old Oak Common Project in compliance with all company
standards.
Business and Customer Awareness:
o An ability to see bigger picture.
Cost Engineering
o Understands how economic factors that affects the construction industry.
o Provides commercial input to Operation Team
Estimating:
o To support the review tenders & cost data.
o To support the preparation of the Revised Forecast for a Project
Project Management
o Manage the preparation of the monthly CVR and associated commercial reports.
o To be able to report and explain the commercial progress to senior divisional staff
o With other members of the team, produce and provide accurate forecasts of
project cost to completion and final value
o Continually monitor projected costs to completion in line with budget
o Ensure that necessary interface information between customer, sub-contractors and other departments is provided in a timely manner
o Monitor cash flow and valuation plan, ensuring applications are made correctly and in a timely manner
Procurement: advise on alternative forms of contract & procurement arrangements.
Commercial Management:
o Awareness of disputes resolution including options, structure as well as knowledge
of the SCL Protocol
o Application of legislation and ability to liaise with legal experts
o Management and reporting of Commercial Risk and Opportunity
o Management of disallowed cost
Development, Recruitment and Retention
o Experience in the recruitment and retention of staff
o Identifies & targets the needs of individuals & self
o Seeks & gives advice on training & development including professional
o Gives feedback on strengths and weaknesses connecting plans for development of individuals.
o Determine project commercial staff requirement & liaison with HR for recruitment including temporary staff
o Interviewing staff for lesser grades
o Involvement with Schools & Universities to promote BBVS as a potential employer and to support sponsored students.
Who we're looking for
Valid CSCS card are required.
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent
Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB
Eligibility to work and live permanently in the UK
