Role Aim



The Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Engineer (OBS Consultant) is a dual role providing both technical/engineering and lean/operational excellence support for the production team based in the Hull manufacturing facility for Bollhoff UK limited.

The overall aim of the Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Engineer (OBS Consultant) will be responsibility for the improvement of and/or implementation of new equipment, processes, procedures and systems to enhance manufacturing operations at Bollhoff UK Limited Hull. Both in terms of technical capabilities and Lean Manufacturing / Operational Excellence methodologies in respect to Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Driving improvements to enhance stability and predictability within Hull manufacturing operations. Together with developing, implementing and ensuring sustainability of Lean Manufacturing / Operational Excellence programs in line with OBS (Optimising Bollhoff System) methodology.

The role requires a proactive individual with enhanced systematic problem-solving skills, respond to first line technical issues within production, develop improved procedures/systems and implementation of new systems of work to enhance safety, quality, efficiency and productivity to ensure the Hull manufacturing operations can deliver the best possible quality products On Time In Full (OTIF) to our customers.

Roles and Responsibilities



Manufacturing Engineer



Process Design and Improvement



Ensure compliance with governing standards relevant to Hull Manufacturing Operations and make proposals to increase the robustness of compliance within Hull Manufacturing Operations. Development and optimisation of current manufacturing processes and workflows Analysis of production data in respect to Safety, Quality and Delivery to identify areas for improvement Troubleshooting and resolution of technical production issues with the use of Systematic Problem-Solving Tools and Techniques within Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) activities Develop and share manufacturing best practices to enhance manufacturing operations

Technology and Innovation



Research and implement new manufacturing technologies and workflows Concept, design, test and commission new equipment, processes and manufacturing systems Installation, commissioning and associated operational training requirements of manufacturing equipment and processes Evaluation of new manufacturing equipment, processes and materials Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices to ensure Hull manufacturing Evaluation of automation and digitalisation of manufacturing operations workflows Development of Standard and Standardised Work instructions inclusive of defined processing parameters to reduce variation and ensure conformity of manufactured components.

Cost Analysis and Optimisation



Identification and evaluation of productivity and cost saving opportunities Ensure products manufactured within Hull Manufacturing Operations are produced as efficiently as possible, whilst ensuring compliance to global standards Work closely with Maintenance Engineering to develop, implement and sustain Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities to reduce downtime and cost associated with unplanned events. Utilisation of Six Sigma Methodologies to reduce variation in manufacturing processes and 'built-In quality'.

Collaboration and Communication



Work closely with internal teams such as Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Technical (Project/Product Management) and finance Developing and sharing of manufacturing best practices across Bollhoff Group Manufacturing to enhance European and global best practice definition. Provide technical support and engineering guidance to the production and quality teams within Hull manufacturing operations.

Continuous Improvement (OBS Lead)



Together with the Site Lead / Head of Production / OBS Accountable Develop and Deliver Continuous Improvement Projects for the site. Working with other site management to Teach, Engage and Empower departments in OBS (Optimising Bolhoff System) principles, tools and techniques for Continuous Improvement. Proactive approach to Continuous Improvement in terms of Lean Management of production system process, capacity of people and equipment to optimise site productivity. Working with site wide leadership in the development of OBS tools and techniques Drive culture change by engaging and empowering people to make improvements to working practices and methods Together with the Site Lead / Head of Production - Coach and Mentor Shop Floor Management (SFM) / Meetings, effective communication and principles of a Production System Transformation Model (PSTM) and Operational Excellence to ensure 'Stability and Predictability' within the production system. Together with the Site Manager / Head of Production / OBS Accountable participate in regular communication meetings with OBS Continuous Improvement Expert/s and best practice sharing. Define and maintain BUK Hull OBS Roadmap Together with the Site Manager / Head of Production / OBS Accountable prepare a monthly report detailing; Current State, Target State, Actions Plan/s to achieve target state and progress.

Qualifications



Bachelor's degree (BEng) in manufacturing engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field Master's degree (MEng), would be an advantage. Proven experience within a manufacturing engineering and/or Continuous Improvement Strong knowledge of manufacturing design, processes and equipment Excellent systematic problem-solving (SPS skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and coaching/mentoring of SPS tools and techniques Strong project management skills and ability to maintain and manage CAPEX budgets Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Skills / Attributes



Experience with developing and implementing Lean Manufacturing / Operational Excellence principles Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Six Sigma methodologies would be a significant advantage or willing to train/develop (Six Sigma Green / Black Belt) Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality Innovative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement / Operational Excellence

Salary and Benefits



40,000 to 43,000 per annum (Dependent upon experience) Opportunities for professional development (Six Sigma, Chartership etc.)

Miscellaneous



The job holder may have to fulfill additional tasks on the instruction of the Site Manager / Head of Production provided that these tasks fall within the remit of the employee or can be assigned to the employee due to their skills and qualifications.

In addition, all contractual employment provisions and employment-related regulations apply.
