The Role
This is a varied position working across both engineering and production. You will be responsible for setting up and improving manufacturing processes, supporting new product introductions, resolving production issues, and driving efficiency improvements. The role combines desk-based engineering tasks with hands-on involvement in the workshop when required.
Key Responsibilities
Process & Documentation
Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and production documentation (works orders, kitting lists, route cards)
Verify and validate BOMs within the MRP system for accuracy
Maintain databases of customer and in-house drawings, ensuring version control
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
Analyse workflows, layouts, and processes to improve efficiency and reduce waste
Carry out FMEAs and root cause analysis to identify and resolve issues
Introduce error-proofing (Poka Yoke) and other quality improvements
Support cost-saving initiatives across production
Technical Support & Hands-On Involvement
Provide technical support and training to production teams
Investigate and resolve production concerns, both on the shop floor and within engineering systems
Work collaboratively with design, quality, and operations to deliver practical solutions
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Support the introduction of new products and prototypes from design through to full production
Design and develop special tooling, jigs, and fixtures to support manufacturing requirements
Assist in creating detailed production plans to meet budgets and timelines
About You
Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical / Production Engineering
Strong background in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
Confident in interpreting engineering drawings and translating them into production solutions
Desirable (but not essential):
Experience in defence, aerospace, rail, or other highly regulated sectors
Knowledge of BS EN ISO 9001, 3834, EN 15085 (welding/fabrication)
Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
