Job Overview


We are seeking an experienced and proactive Manufacturing Manager to oversee daily operations within our production facility. A hands-on physical role more shop floor based than desk with a varied skill set. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating manufacturing activities, ensuring safety and quality standards are met, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help develop an established business, ensuring efficient production processes and optimal utilisation of resources.

This role is succession planning for our main manufacturing manager who is planning retirement. We are a small team (4/5 in house plus regular outworkers) of skilled people who manufacture brass and copper products covering a range of purposes. The role is currently around 28-30 hours per week over 4 days, Mon-Thur, with a view to increasing hours as the business develops. The role is most suited to someone with an engineering background or knowledge/understanding. The successful candidate will learn on the job as the products we manufacture are unique. An open attitude to flexible working and learning is essential as the role will require many different hands-on physical tasks due to the bespoke nature of the products we produce. A driving licence will be necessary as collection and delivery of some parts is required (company van). A candidate with experience and skills based within the cutlery and silverware industry would be an advantage. E.G. Metal polishing, silversmithing (hard soldering). Tasks will include but not limited to - Production organisation and prep, cutting metal (hand and machine), collecting supplies and deliveries, physical lifting and handling, polishing, soldering, emails and word, cleaning and antiquing processes, stock control, general cleaning and basic maintenance. Day to day operational role working along side the MD/Owner. Updates to this description may appear as the process progresses.

Responsibilities



Lead and manage the manufacturing team to achieve production targets while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. Develop and implement operational strategies to optimise manufacturing processes and reduce waste. Monitor production schedules, adjust workflows as necessary, and ensure deadlines are consistently met. Enforce health and safety regulations across the facility, conducting regular risk assessments and safety audits. Be mindful of costs and budgets, labour planning, and resource allocation effectively. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and investment in staff.

Requirements



Desirable - Proven experience in manufacturing management or a similar leadership role within a production environment. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality standards, health & safety regulations, and lean methodologies. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively under pressure. Demonstrable leadership qualities with experience in team development and conflict resolution. Good analytical and problem solving skills. We are often asked to manufacture things we have never done before and therefore need to call on our collective skills and experience to figure out how to make something. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work collaboratively across departments. Pay: 23,000.00-30,000.00 per year
