Manufacturing Process Engineer Rubber Processing

Job Description

Our client operates within the railway industry conducting ground breaking research and design based on innovative concepts to make train travel safer and more reliable. They wish to employ a Manufacturing Process Engineer. The primary function of this role is to develop the manufacturing process of their rubber and textile-based items to optimise quality and cost reduce safety and environment risk. The successful candidate will report to the Manufacturing Manager. The main duties of the role include:

  • Improve current processes and equipment to reduce the risk to Operator, using a structured Risk Assessment process.
  • Investigate and implement materials and processes which lower our environmental footprint.
  • Improve the current manufacturing processes to reduce overall product cost by optimising their current processes.
  • Use recognised problem-solving tools to understand and eliminate waste.
  • Lead PFMEA on key processes.
  • Develop and implement the process for new products from design into production, including the training of Operators.
  • Develop materials and processes which reduce the environmental impact of their processes, with specific reference to solvents and adhesives.
  • Develop training material and improve the basic polymer processing skills and knowledge of their Operators.
  • Research, develop and implement new manufacturing processes to support our long-term capacity requirements and reduce overall cost.
  • Constantly search for improvements and develop new processes and methods.
The ideal candidate for the position will have:
  • Degree qualified or with an apprenticeship and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience and relevant qualification (HNC) in an engineering discipline (Mechanical/Industrial/Process/Manufacturing).
  • Working with polymer and textile processes (Compression Moulding, Calendering, Rotorcuring, Textile coating, Autoclaves and hand build processes.
  • Investigation of processes variations through to root cause using recognised problem-solving tools.
  • Tooling and equipment improvement.
  • Experience of using lean tools to set standards and solve problems.
  • Strong attention to detail and methodical problem-solving skills.
  • Strong technical understanding of polymer and textile processing.
  • Critical/Logical thinking capability in approaching work.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively introduce change.
  • Highly structured and organised person.
