to oversee daily operations within our marine engineering team. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic marine systems with the ability to lead, coordinate, and support a team of technicians. This role involves ensuring the workshop, stock, and team are fully prepared for upcoming tasks, maintaining excellent customer relationships, and upholding the highest standards of workmanship and safety across all projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Coordination:
Plan and allocate daily tasks, ensuring the team is prepared with the right tools, parts, and information for the next day's work.
Supervise technicians and provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training.
Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
Workshop & Stock Management:
Oversee the organization, cleanliness, and functionality of the workshop.
Manage inventory levels, parts ordering, and supplier relationships to ensure smooth operations.
Track stock usage and maintain accurate records.
Technical Responsibilities:
Perform and oversee maintenance, fault-finding, and repairs on marine engines (inboard and outboard), propulsion systems, generators, and auxiliary systems.
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot marine electrical and electronic systems including batteries, navigation electronics, lighting, and control systems.
Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems (e.g., steering, winches, and lifting gear).
Conduct and supervise routine servicing, inspections, and commissioning work.
Participate in haul-outs, launches, and sea trials.
Customer & Project Management:
Liaise directly with clients, vessel owners, and suppliers in a professional and proactive manner.
Provide technical updates, manage customer expectations, and ensure timely completion of work to the highest standards.
Maintain accurate job sheets and progress reports.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Trade qualification or equivalent experience in marine engineering, mechanical, or electrical systems.
Minimum
5 years of hands-on experience
in marine maintenance and repair, with at least
1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role
preferred.
Strong knowledge of marine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Valid driving licence.
Desirable Skills:
Marine electrical or electronic system knowledge (e.g., NMEA, DC & AC systems).
GRP & gel coat repair skills.
RYA PB2 with commercial endorsement.
OEM training or certification in marine engine servicing and diagnostics.
