We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Marine Underwriter to join our dynamic team within the financial services sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for underwriting cargo and marine liability insurance policies, evaluating risk exposures, and ensuring profitable growth for the organisation. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your expertise in negotiation, risk analysis, and quantitative assessment to support our clients and business objectives. We are an underwriting agency and therefore we are seeking a candidate with good experience and understanding of delegated binding authority arrangements.
Responsibilities
Analyse insurance applications and supporting documents to evaluate liability risks effectively.
Prepare insurance documentation after peer review
Operate strictly within the realms of the delegated underwriting authority granted
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments using quantitative analysis techniques to determine appropriate policy terms and conditions.
Negotiate policy terms, premiums, and coverage limits with brokers and clients to achieve mutually beneficial agreements.
Develop and maintain detailed risk profiles, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with claims teams to assess claim trends and adjust underwriting strategies accordingly.
Prepare detailed reports summarising risk evaluations, underwriting decisions, and recommendations for senior management.
Stay informed of industry developments, legislative changes, and emerging risks impacting marine insurance products.
Requirements
Proven experience in cargo and marine liability insurance market
Strong skills in negotiation, quantitative analysis, and risk assessment methodologies.
Educational background in Mathematics, Accounting, Banking, or related fields is highly desirable.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and a strong understanding of financial principles.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while demonstrating initiative.
Professional certification is advantageous but not essential.
