Marketing & Business Development Assistant

Location: Purton, UK

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7:45am - 4:45pm

About Us

Ignition Components is a longstanding UK manufacturer specialising in flame rods, spark plugs, electrodes, and related ignition components. With over 120 years of heritage and strong growth ambitions, we're keen to take the business to the next level.

We are a small, dedicated team with existing staff based in Walsall, and we are now establishing a new sales and operations office in Swindon. At present, the Managing Director is the only person based there--so this is an opportunity to help shape the new office from the ground up.

Here, you won't just be another cog in a large machine. Your work will directly impact our customers, our brand, and our growth. New ideas are encouraged, learning is part of the job, and there's plenty of room to take on responsibility as the business expands.

Role Overview

The Marketing & Business Development Assistant will take ownership of day-to-day marketing activities--creating and managing promotional materials, maintaining our online presence, and supporting campaigns to attract new customers.

You will also play a vital role in business development, generating and qualifying leads, following up with prospects, and in some cases converting these into sales.

This is a hands-on role ideal for someone eager to be part of a small team, contribute across departments, and grow with the business. One day you might be designing a product flyer or posting on LinkedIn, the next you could be researching potential customers, updating the CRM, or preparing a quotation. You may also occasionally support in the workshop or handle incoming phone calls to help with customer service.

The role requires someone who is self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable working independently. Flexibility, initiative, and a willingness to "get stuck in" are key.

For the right person, there will be real scope to develop your career as the company continues to grow--potentially moving into a broader marketing, sales, or business development role.

Key Responsibilities

Keep the customer database and CRM system up to date, ensuring all details are accurate and current Create, manage, and update marketing materials (brochures, product sheets, presentations, social media posts, email campaigns, etc.) Support and develop our digital marketing, website updates, and online presence Research new market opportunities and identify potential customers Generate and qualify leads through email, phone, and online channels Follow up with prospective customers and build relationships to support sales Prepare and send out quotations, order confirmations, and customer communications Collaborate with the Managing Director on marketing strategy and business development initiatives Provide general support across the business, including occasional admin and logistics tasks Contribute ideas to improve our marketing, sales approach, and overall customer engagement

Required Skills and Experience

Experience in marketing, sales, or customer engagement (B2B preferred) Confident communicator--both written and verbal--with a good eye for presentation Organised, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks at once Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision Willing to learn new skills and contribute beyond your core responsibilities Comfortable with basic office software, social media, and CRM systems

Desirable

Experience with marketing and sales tools (Canva, Mailchimp, InDesign, Pipedrive, etc.) Interest in technical products, manufacturing, or industrial markets Previous involvement in content creation, campaigns, or outbound telemarketing

What We Offer

A supportive working environment where your ideas are valued and needed The opportunity to gain broad experience across marketing, sales, and business development A genuine chance to grow with the company, taking on more responsibility as we expand Profit share bonus scheme - a percentage of company profit is shared between staff, with no upper limit
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 26,000.00-35,000.00 per year

Benefits:

Profit sharing
Application question(s):

Are you happy working as part of a very small team, where everyone is expected to pitch in--including occasionally helping outside your core role (such as answering calls, basic admin, or supporting in the workshop), and are you comfortable with occasional travel to our Walsall site if required? Do you have previous experience in sales, marketing, or customer engagement (ideally B2B)? If yes, please give a brief example. This is a role where you'll often be working independently in the office. Are you self-motivated and comfortable managing your workload without close supervision?
