Marketing & Business Development Manager

Liverpool, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Summary

R Baker Electrical is a solution-led electrical and mechanical services provider seeking a driven Marketing & Business Development Manager to assist in executing our new growth strategy. We are positioning ourselves as the UK's most trusted engineering partner for bespoke transformers and critical electrical solutions, specifically serving the defence, rail, offshore, and industrial sectors.

We are creating a new role to work directly with the Managing Director to implement a focused marketing action plan, generating and prioritising leads and arranging appointments, as well as handling general marketing tasks. While experience in the engineering sector is beneficial, we are prioritising candidates who can demonstrate the ability to build relationships, manage data effectively, and are comfortable making and taking phone calls. You will play a central role in telling our story, connecting with key prospects, and ensuring our sales activity is efficient and targeted.

The ideal candidate will be proactive and personable - this role is ideally suited for someone with a few years' business experience looking to take a step into a more responsible business development role.

Key Responsibilities

This is an ideal opportunity to help build and grow the business development team within R Baker. Currently this work is led by the company's MD, so you'll have the opportunity to drive the company's marketing function and sales support processes. We are looking for someone to:

Lead the engagement of our existing contact base. A primary task will be managing our ACT database of over 15,000 contacts, segmenting them into tiers and running tailored outreach campaigns to generate new opportunities. You will support the sales function by qualifying leads, arranging appointments (primarily by phone) and ensuring the directors are prioritising the highest potential prospects.

Log and manage all incoming enquiries within ACT, accurately recording quote stages, tracking progress, and proactively following up on all enquiries and quotations to support conversion and timely decision-making.

Improve our digital presence to engage new prospects by maintaining and developing the company website and LinkedIn activity, ensuring content clearly reflects our specialist services, technical capability, and project experience, and supports inbound enquiries from engineering-led and procurement-driven organisations.

Identify potential new clients - proactively identify key decision-makers--such as Senior Engineers and Procurement Managers - within our target market.

Qualifications & Skills

We are looking for a candidate who can deliver high-quality activity on a managed budget, utilising a mix of relationship skills and technical marketing ability.

Proficiency in managing CRM databases is critical. Experience with ACT or similar platforms to track interactions and segment data is highly desirable.

The ability to build rapport with diverse stakeholders, from shop-floor engineers to business owners, is essential. You must be capable of nurturing relationships over long sales cycles.

You must possess excellent written and verbal skills, capable of adopting our specific tone of voice: technical enough to demonstrate expertise, but straightforward and approachable to remove friction for the customer.

You must be willing to make phone calls to our contacts, some of whom may have not heard from us for a period of time.

Ideally we are looking for creative ability using tools like Canva.

High level of initiative, drive, and resilience, with a passion for exceeding goals and driving business growth.

Technical Skills:

We want somebody who can help us deliver our sales and marketing activity on a relatively limited budget, so you will need to have technical skills in some if not all of:

Proficiency in using Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tools (ideally ACT, but potentially a similar tool like Salesforce or HubSpot

Familiarity with digital marketing tools and tactics.

Basic understanding of data analysis to interpret sales metrics, identify trends, and inform decision-making.
