Job purpose
The NCTJ is seeking an enthusiastic and creative marketing executive to help drive our digital presence forward and help with the co-ordination of events and awards. This is an office-based role in Newport, Essex. The successful candidate will plan and deliver digital marketing campaigns across multiple platforms. They will play an important role in growing brand awareness, increasing engagement and promoting our training, qualifications, apprenticeships and related initiatives such as the Journalism Skills Academy, accredited courses, the Journalism Diversity Fund, and the work of NCTJ ambassadors.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in delivering digital marketing activity across platforms including social media, email, and the NCTJ website.
- Support the promotion of NCTJ qualifications, accredited courses, apprenticeships and the Journalism Skills Academy.
- Help plan and create engaging content to raise awareness of the Journalism Diversity Fund and NCTJ ambassadors.
- Create graphics, videos and written content for social media, newsletters and the website.
- Update website content using a content management system (WordPress).
- Support the co-ordination of NCTJ events, awards and prizes, supporting their planning, promotion and smooth administration.
- Contribute ideas to the NCTJ's content plans.
- Work closely with the communications team to support digital content for press releases and other campaigns.
- Keep up to date with digital marketing trends and suggest ideas to improve engagement.
Essential skills and experience
- One to two years' experience in digital marketing, particularly in content creation, social media and email marketing.
- This is a marketing role, but journalism skills are highly transferable. An NCTJ qualification would be a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Canva, HubSpot and WordPress.
- Understanding of SEO and experience using social media for marketing purposes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and engaging content.
- Strong organisational and administration skills and the ability to co-ordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
- Basic graphic design skills (e.g. Canva) and an eye for visual content.
- Knowledge of, or interest in, the journalism or media training industry.
- Some experience with paid advertising (e.g. Google Ads, promoted social media posts) would be an advantage.

- A proactive and self-motivated individual who can use their initiative.
- Collaborative and confident, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in both content and reporting.
