The mission of the American Museum & Gardens (AM&G) is to educate, stimulate, and inspire its visitors to further the understanding of American history and culture. The Museum carries out this mission through the presentation of its historic rooms, its decorative art and folk-art collections, and its special exhibitions, learning programmes, and gardens. Our organisation is the only one of its kind outside the boundaries of the United States. We welcomed over 60,000 visitors last year, most of them British.

About the role
The Marketing Officer role is responsible for all marketing and PR activity including all social media platforms, website, press releases, editorial coverage, image and video content, leaflet distribution, on site marketing, advertising (paid for and free), discounts and other marketing and PR opportunities.
This post will report to the Collections & Public Engagement Director and manage a busy and varied workload, collaborating closely with colleagues across the museum and our partners. Flexibility, creativity alongside an analytical approach, proactivity and the ability to communicate at all levels will be essential.
Key responsibilities for the role are outlined below:
Marketing planning, delivery and analysis
Create, edit and schedule engaging content that is consistent with our tone of voice and editorial style, optimising for each platform and format
Monitor and evaluate the impact of campaigns, drawing on audience research and trends, ticket data and digital engagement metrics, adapting strategies accordingly.
Work alongside internal teams that evaluate feedback from our existing visitors, to better understand their expectations and experience, in order to inform our marketing work
Monitor and report on marketing spend, and ensuring spend remains within the annual marketing budget
Collaborate with colleagues across the organisation to generate ideas for content and establish a working calendar of planned activities including promotion of commercial activities such as private hire, development and membership
Ensure that marketing meets relevant legislation (including data protection, marketing codes and regulations, accessibility standards, copyright and model release)
Press, social media and onsite marketing:
Devise creative campaigns to promote our exhibitions and events, in support of our overall marketing strategy to grow visitor numbers and increase brand reach as well as marketing for business areas (fundraising, private hire and location filming)
Respond to general media enquiries, and proactively seek opportunities for editorial coverage drafting press releases and marketing copy
Schedule posts across social media platforms and respond to social media enquiries
Manage our mailing lists of subscribers, creating and sending out regular e-newsletters
Manage content on the AM&G website, keeping key information up to date
Maximise use of and keep updated on-site opportunities to engage visitors (i.e.; reviews, posters, table toppers)
Identify and establish networks for external opportunities offered by tourist agencies and others, such as Visit Britain's 'Escape the Everyday', group tours and other travel trade opportunities
Responsibility for the marketing image library: organisation and ensuring GDPR compliance
Work with professional photographers to build our existing library, and for specific events/activities
Support the Collections & Public Engagement Director in developing comms in response to any issues that may arise

Personal specification
Essential:
A Marketing qualification or 3 years Marketing experience
Exceptional proven written and verbal communication skills
Detailed knowledge of online advertising
Ability to spot a potential story
Experience of creating, using and editing content in different channels (web, social media, PR)
Understanding of brand management
Experience of marketing and website metrics/analytics
Ability to plan and prioritise a demanding workload and meet deadlines
Advanced IT skills (using Microsoft Office).
Ability to use and edit digital media
Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
Strong team player
Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate effectively and appropriately to a wide range of people
Desirable:
Previous experience working within an arts/heritage organisation/cultural sector
Good eye for design and presentation
Understanding of relevant legislation (including data protection, marketing codes and regulations, accessibility standards, copyright and model release)
Experience of analysing audience information and using this to identify methods to target different types of audience
