Based at our Luton manufacturing plant you\'ll do just that. Established in 1993, GKN Aerospace in Luton is a world leader in commercial and military ice protection systems and transparencies. Offering a full range of capabilities; design, analysis, testing, certification and manufacture of electro-thermal ice protection, military fast jet canopies and flight deck windows to over 20 programmes including: Boeing 787, Dreamliner, Airbus A320, AgustaWestland, AW101, Eurofighter Typhoon and Lockheed, Martin F-22 Raptor. Our customers include Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Bell Helicopters, Textron, BAE Systems, Pratt & Whitney, Leonardo. Our Luton site is home to 400+ employees and onsite facilities including onsite parking, canteen, vending machines and showers.

The Material Scheduler will be based at our Luton manufacturing site and sit within the wider Supply Chain team serving both our Defence and Civil business line, reporting to the Planning Manager. The Material Scheduler will manage the shop floor scheduling activities in the production area working closely with Group Leaders and Team Leaders and manage visual systems to communicate and monitor the sequence of production orders ensuring the availability of raw material resources whilst creating and maintaining the optimal production sequence. The Material Scheduler will provide interface between Logistics, Planning, Operations and Procurement on material availability issues and short lead time (1-7 days ) schedule prioritisation, the role is data driven around report creation, communication and investigation.

This is a full-time position and core operational hours at our Luton site are: 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be compliant with the Company\'s Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy procedures
  • Monitor Stock cover daily in order to avoid Stock outs as well as overstocks by adjusting the execution sequence if possible or raising the issue with the Master Scheduler
  • Weekly track, challenge and report Schedule Adherence with reasons for deviation to Production Area Management and Master Scheduler
  • Monitor manufacturing output/performance daily against the schedule, challenging and understanding whenever performance differs from standard
  • Identify key materials and provide weekly availability tracker to support the prevention of shortages
  • Review days of inventory on all materials
  • Review items with stock, stock size and escalation of items with no stock
  • Work within agree control values to change the materials master data for safety stock
  • Report and investigate volume of work in progress against the build plan including the early launching of planned orders
  • Daily track repairs within the production area and communicate progress against agreed master production schedule
  • Provide order sequence information to Master Production Scheduler for build parts from operations work in progress boards
  • Provide Master Production Schedule and Planning Manager with data on production orders delays, slow moving parts, not started or production orders with faults
  • Investigate route cause as required

Essential:
  • Significant material or stock planning experience gained from a manufacturing or warehouse environment
  • Experience of inventory management to identify resource and material trigger points
  • Experience of working with operations professionals to set schedules
  • Experience of using Microsoft Excel to schedule inventory
  • Experience of using SAP or other ERP system
Desirable:
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Experience of working to FIFO
  • Experience of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement
