Job Purpose



The Materials Controller is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, control, and issue of materials within a busy outdoor yard environment. The role ensures stock integrity, safe handling, correct storage, and timely availability of materials to support operational activities.

Key Responsibilities



Materials & Stock Control



Receive, check, and record incoming materials against delivery documentation Ensure materials are stored correctly, safely, and in designated locations Maintain accurate stock records using manual logs and/or computer systems Carry out regular stock checks and cycle counts Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies, shortages, and damages Report discrepancies and trends to the Yard Supervisor or Operations Manager

Forklift & Yard Operations



Operate a forklift truck safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload materials Assist with general yard organisation and housekeeping Ensure materials are accessible and clearly identified Support loading of outbound materials for dispatch or site use

Health, Safety & Compliance



Work safely at all times in line with company policies and site procedures Ensure correct manual handling techniques are used Maintain a clean, organised, and hazard-free yard environment Report any safety concerns, damaged materials, or equipment issues

Communication & Coordination



Liaise with drivers, suppliers, and site teams regarding deliveries and material availability Communicate stock issues or delays promptly Support operational teams to ensure materials are available when required

Skills & Experience



Essential



Previous experience in a materials control, stores, or yard-based role Valid forklift truck licence Experience working in an outdoor, fast-paced environment Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to investigate and resolve stock discrepancies Good organisational and time-management skills Basic IT skills (stock systems, spreadsheets, or handheld devices)

Desirable



Experience in construction, manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environments Knowledge of safe storage methods for heavy or bulky materials Experience with stock management systems

Reliable and punctual Proactive and able to work independently Safety-conscious with a practical, hands-on approach Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions Good problem-solving skills
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to 30,000.00 per year
