As a Materials Engineer, you will work within the Materials Division who are supporting the delivery of commercial fusion by: - Engineering and scoping new material compositions and microstructures in pursuit of \xe2\x80\x9cfusion-grade\xe2\x80\x9d structural and functional systems.
- Modelling and experimentally-validating the ability for selected materials to survive the anticipated fusion environment.
- Maintaining the Materials Research Facility, a national user facility for the advanced characterisation of radioactive materials. This role will involve supporting key projects with micro-mechanical testing of materials at high temperatures and post-irradiation. This role is open to people across all sectors, but expertise in FIB milling and nanoindentation are essential. Additional Responsibilities - Managing multiple projects and planning experiments.
- Operation of advanced equipment for characterising and testing the performance of materials at high temperatures and after irradiation.
- Delivery of technical and scientific outputs (papers, posters and reports).
- Presenting results at conferences, both domestic and internationally.
- Assisting in the management of data, including metadata.
- Exploiting skills and knowledge to support the activities of the wider non-Metallics team. Qualifications
Essential Requirements: - Degree in material science or equivalent.
- Post graduate research in materials science demonstrated either through work experience in the materials field in industry, or a MSc / PhD degree.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
