Newbury Study Hall has taught academic English and school subjects to high-achieving European students (non-native speakers) from very prestigious schools for over a decade. The OISE group has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
From January 2026, OISE Newbury Study Hall will be establishing itself in the local Newbury market as a small, independent (private) provider of GCSE & A-level programmes. We will offer a distinctive alternative to large, traditional sixth forms or colleges for students aged 16+ looking for full-time education, as well as after-school, Saturday-morning and school-holiday masterclasses in GCSE & A-level subjects to students of any age as a complement to their full-time education at large local schools.
Applicants should not expect to tutor our very small classes or individuals in the same way as a large class would be taught - that will not have worked for our students and hence they will have come to us. OISE methodology is quite different and reflects a home-schooling or Oxford tutorial model: simpler, more effective, very little technology, very human. We focus exclusively on students' learning, largely ignoring teachers' teaching (hence why traditional teacher qualifications and experience are somewhat irrelevant to this application).
OISE aims to get each individual student the very best grades they can, whether that is simply a pass, a movement out of the sticky middle grades, or to the very top grades for leading universities.
