M&E Design Engineer

Trentside Fixings is a Nottingham-based specialist supplier of fixings, fasteners, cable containment, and M&E support systems to commercial and industrial projects across the UK. We work closely with electrical and mechanical contractors to provide not just products, but engineered solutions that save time on site and reduce installation issues.

As our technical offering grows, we're looking for a Freelance M&E Design Engineer to support our customers with detailed drawings, layouts, and BIM-ready models.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Freelance M&E Design Engineer with strong CAD and BIM experience to produce accurate, buildable drawings for mechanical and electrical support systems, cable containment, brackets, frames, and bespoke assemblies.

You will work closely with our sales and technical teams, interpreting site requirements, specifications, and contractor needs to create clear, professional drawings that integrate into wider BIM environments.

Key Responsibilities

Produce 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD Develop and manage BIM-compatible models (Revit or equivalent) Design M&E support solutions including: Cable containment routes Trapeze systems Brackets and frames Plant supports Bespoke fixings solutions Interpret specifications, architect drawings, and contractor mark-ups Provide clear GA drawings, fabrication details, and installation visuals Revise drawings following site feedback and design changes Ensure drawings align with UK standards and best practice Maintain organised drawing registers and version control
Required Skills & ExperienceEssential:

Strong experience with AutoCAD Working knowledge of BIM workflows Experience using Cadenas Understanding of M&E systems, containment, and building services Ability to interpret technical specifications and GA drawings Excellent attention to detail Ability to work independently and meet deadlines Clear communication skills
Desirable:

Experience with Navisworks Revit experience Knowledge of Unistrut, Walraven, Lindapter, Zip-Clip, Gripple, or similar systems Experience working with UK commercial construction projects Familiarity with BIM Level 2 environments
