We are currently looking for a Mechanical & Electrical Supervisor (with Electrical bias) to join our growing and diverse teams across the UK, overseeing Yorkshire & Northeast (YNE) and the East Midlands (EMids).

Mechanical & Electrical Supervisors manage a team of M&E skilled staff across a region and are responsible for providing customer service through a programme of M&E fixed asset maintenance works, both planned and reactive, and the operational management of these assets. They contribute to the Trust\xe2\x80\x99s aims to improve safety and increase the number of people using the waterways.

M&E Supervisors plan and manage works and ensure their team work efficiently, ensuring team members have the correct materials and equipment to carry out their role in the safe delivery of planned and reactive works. As supervisor of the Yorkshire & Northeast and the East Midlands team you will oversee 5 M&E Technicians, 3 M&E Volunteers and 2 M&E apprentices.

M&E supervisors are the first point of contact for all mechanical and electrical faults, it is essential that you know how to prioritise workload based on safety, customer and business requirements. Its vital to the running of the team that you can step back and plan for everyone to be as efficient as possible whilst maintaining a safe, high performing delivery team of technicians, whilst managing a steady stream of work through to completion.

As you will become a Senior Authorising Person, a technical foundation in C&G Wiring Regulations, C&G Inspection and Test is essential; with the potential to develop your skills in hydraulics via team training.

Formally based at our Leeds or Newark hub, this starts the day where required; travelling around Y&NE and EMids locations such as Tees Barrage, Stockton, Foxton Locks, Market Harborough, Castleford Depot, Leeds

Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience

This role supports Canal & River Trust\xe2\x80\x99s aims to improve safety and increase the number of people using the inland waterways network. Your skills will be used to maintain our waterways infrastructure.

Key to the role is ensuring that HR policies and procedures are followed and regular reporting to the National Delivery manager. Good Knowledge of Programmable Logic Centres and fault finding is advantageous as is an in depth knowledge of hydraulic systems.

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the delivery of a maintenance program and repair works, assisted by contractors as required, to the ensure the waterway M&E infrastructure is well maintained and works are completed to time, quality and budget.
  • Ensure efficient and effective procurement and use of plant, equipment and materials to reduce costs.
  • Ensure the team achieve or better the planned production target.
  • Working outside provide Electrical, mechanical and marine support to an assigned area, assist in the resolution of mechanical and electrical engineering-related situations as they arise.
  • Ensure the team deliver works free of defects and to the specified quality.
  • Undertake the risk assessment of proposed works and the development of and compliance with method statements.
  • Work safely ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities.
  • Ensure high levels of safety on site.
  • Participate in a 24/7 standby rota.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
  • Ensure that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promote inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust\xe2\x80\x99s policies and values.
About you

Do you have first line management experience, have you previously managed a small or large team to deliver asset maintenance? Can you follow company procedures to deliver targeted planned preventative maintenance? If you have previously worked in a supervisory role in Hydraulics, Manufacturing, Packaging, Lift & Escalators, Heating Controls, you may be what we are looking for.

Qualifications and attainments:
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or NVQ/BTEC Level 3 Electrical engineering.
  • C&G BS7671 17/18th Wiring regulations, essential.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Managing Safely.
  • C&G 2391 Inspection and Test, desirable but not essential.
  • It would be desirable if you have experience working with Hydraulic Systems .
Work experience:
  • Comprehensive experience in operational management and delivering planned or reactive works to time specification and budget?
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical or Electrical engineer is essential.
  • Experience of leading a team, coaching and motivating staff and supporting their personal growth.
  • Proven experience with Hydraulic systems and fault finding would be advantageous.
  • Proven experience with Electrical control panel fault finding would be advantageous.
  • Experience with PLC\xe2\x80\x99s would be advantageous.
Skills:

Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills; must be able to maintain favourable working relationships with colleagues,volunteers and members of the public.

Safety:
  • Comply with Canal & River Trust Health & Safety policy and defined standards, report incidents, accidents and near misses. Assess the risks and make adjustments to work methods where appropriate. Ensure all equipment (PPE, plant, materials etc.) is appropriate for the task. Consider your own and others behaviour.
