The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of mechanical systems, components, and assemblies. This role involves creating 3D models, detailed drawings, and technical documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet performance, quality, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and systems using SolidWorks.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings.
Collaborate with manufacturing, electrical, and project engineering teams to ensure design intent is met through to production.
Participate in design reviews and conduct root cause analysis of design issues.
Support prototype builds, testing, and validation of new products.
Manage engineering documentation including BOMs, change requests, and technical reports.
Ensure designs meet applicable health, safety, and environmental standards.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvements, and innovation.
Qualifications
HNC/D in Mechanical Engineering
Skills and Competencies
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (Essential)
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, fabrication, and assembly. (Essential)
Familiarity with GD&T, engineering standards (BS8888), and design for manufacturability (DFM). (Essential)
Ability to perform engineering calculations. (Essential)
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills. (Essential)
Strong communication and teamwork abilities. (Essential)
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills. (Essential)
An understanding of Electrical systems (PLC, VFD, Servo) (Desirable)
Understanding of the CE marking process (Desirable)
Experience
3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in the special purpose machinery field.
Experience working through full product lifecycle--from concept to production release.
Working Conditions
Office-based with occasional visits to customer sites.
