The salary for this role is 40,609
(inclusive of a Specialist Allowance- 3,100)
Onsite working is expected for 3 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)

The Role
RACE's mission is to become an internationally recognized leader in Remote Applications for Challenging Environments by delivering complex solutions, advancing new technologies, and supporting the UK industry. The goal is to establish RACE as a center of technical excellence, driving innovation and leadership in this specialized field.
In line with this mission, mechanical design engineers will play a key role by executing project and operational responsibilities in collaboration with external partners, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints. Additionally, they will contribute to the development and implementation of the RACE technology roadmap.
In this role, you will assess system compatibility, explore alternative techniques, and evaluate their feasibility and reliability. You will capture requirements, conduct market and technology surveys, and write functional specifications. Additionally, you will generate and select design concepts, research components, perform structural analysis, and collaborate with experts during peer reviews and detailed drafting.
You will coordinate the procurement process, write assembly and testing procedures, oversee manufacturing quality, and manage the commissioning of systems. Your responsibilities will also include conducting VR simulations, defining operational sequences, performing RAMI analysis, and planning maintenance. You will report progress, plan projects, and contribute to business development through proposals and resource estimation.

Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
BEng in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.
Experience in the design and delivery of complex Remote Maintenance systems or equivalent machinery.
Desirable
Chartered Engineer as part of a professional engineering institution.
May act as a work package manager and manage the budget for their own scope of work.
