The Role



We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Kilmarnock. You will design, develop, and oversee the build and testing of new and existing products to meet customer, market, and business requirements. This includes ensuring designs are fully justified, verified, and documented in line with industry and company standards, while supporting product quality and compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities



Design and develop new products and improvements to existing products, ensuring manufacturability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness. Prepare engineering documentation, including specifications, calculations, FMECA, assembly instructions, and manuals. Produce and verify detailed design models and drawings in line with standards, including BOM management in MRP systems. Select and source components and materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery. Liaise with sales, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver optimal technical solutions. Develop and supervise testing and commissioning practices; manage technical queries. Participate in quality processes, maintain Technical Design Files, and manage product literature. Prepare technical submissions for product acceptance and compliance.

Skills & Qualifications



Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Proficient in Mathcad, ANSYS, and Creo/SolidWorks. Experience in stress analysis, FEA, and mechanical design principles. Knowledge of hydraulic/electrical systems (advantageous). Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar role. Familiarity with technical specifications, manufacturing processes, and system integration. Strong communication and report-writing skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office; MRP experience is a plus. Collaborative, innovative, and detail-oriented with problem-solving skills. Understanding of engineering codes, standards, and HSE regulations. Working towards Chartered Engineer status (preferred).
