Job Title:

Mechanical Design Engineer

Experience Level:

Mid (5-10 years of experience)

Location: Derby



On-site Requirement:

3 days on-site: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday


At ALTEN, we partner with some of the world's leading innovators in

renewable energy and industrial decarbonisation

. We are now looking for experienced

Mechanical Design Engineers

to join our consultancy team in Derby, supporting projects focused on the replacement of

fossil fuel-based systems

with sustainable, next-generation solutions. You'll be working on

turbomachinery-based heating systems

that push the boundaries of industrial efficiency while reducing global emissions. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise in

mechanical design

to make a tangible impact on the journey towards

net zero

Responsibilities:



Design and develop

mechanical systems and components

for turbomachinery-based industrial heating applications. Create detailed designs in

CAD

in line with

BS8888 standards

, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Apply knowledge of

exhaust gas housing

,

gas paths

, and

pipe thermal gradients

to optimize performance and safety. Support

fabrication and multilayer design

processes for high-temperature applications. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate

airflow blades

and structural components. Contribute to the

replacement of traditional furnaces and kilns

with renewable energy-based solution


Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:



5-10 years of experience as a

Mechanical Design Engineer

within BS8888 industries. Strong background in

mechanical engineering

with hands-on design experience. Proficiency in

CAD design

(Siemens NX and Team Centre is advantageous). Experience working with

airflow blades, exhaust gas housing, and thermal system design

. Knowledge of

BS8888

or equivalent mechanical design standards.

Desirable Skills:



Experience with

renewable energy, decarbonisation projects, or industrial heating systems

. Familiarity with

multilayer fabrication techniques

and

gas path design

.

Required Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in

Mechanical Engineering

or a closely related field.
