Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client's design team near Walsall. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of complex fabricated assemblies, pressure-rated components, and associated support equipment. This role involves ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards while optimising designs for performance, safety, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop engineered components and systems in accordance with relevant design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, PD 5500, BS EN). Collaborate with project, production, and quality teams to ensure designs meet client and regulatory requirements. Produce accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and technical documentation. Perform design calculations, simulations, and stress analyses to verify design integrity. Select appropriate materials and evaluate manufacturing processes for suitability and cost-effectiveness. Review and refine existing designs to improve performance and manufacturability. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout the design process. Maintain detailed design documentation and ensure project files are kept up to date.

Candidate Requirements:

Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Proven experience in mechanical design within a heavy fabrication or process engineering environment. Strong understanding of pressure systems design codes (ASME, PD 5500, BS EN). Proficiency in 3D CAD software (such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD). Experience with stress analysis, material selection, and fabrication methods. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to manage multiple design projects and meet deadlines. Due to UK Government security clearance requirements, applicants must be British nationals eligible for UKSV vetting.

Desirable Skills:

Background in power generation, oil & gas, energy, or process industries. Experience using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software. Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration (IMechE or IED).
