experienced Mechanical Design Engineer

to join its

Worcester-based team.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile automation projects and help shape the next generation of material handling systems across diverse industries.

Role Overview:



As a

Mechanical Design Engineer,

you will play a key role in the design and development of bespoke conveyor and automation systems for both automotive production and modern retail distribution environments. Working closely with project, electrical, and controls teams, you will be responsible for creating innovative, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions that meet exacting performance and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:



Design and develop mechanical systems for conveyor and materials handling applications, from concept through to final design release. Create detailed 3D models, layouts, and detailed 2D production drawings using CAD software (Inventor and AutoCAD). Perform engineering calculations (stress, deflection) to validate designs Prepare technical documentation, including FMEA reports, instruction manuals and BOMs. Collaborate with project teams to develop Functional Design Specifications and ensure alignment with client requirements. Provide engineering support during manufacture, installation, and commissioning. Ensure compliance with relevant standards, safety regulations, and customer specifications. Contribute to continuous improvement and standardisation initiatives within the design process.

Candidate Requirements:



Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Demonstrable experience in the design of conveyor systems or automation equipment. Familiarity with applications in automotive production or intralogistics / retail distribution environments. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred). Good understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing methods. Effective communicator with strong problem-solving and organisational skills. Comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. Willingness to travel to client or supplier sites.
