PURPOSE OF ROLE - MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER



The purpose of this job is to be a key part of the engineering team, located at our site in Worcester, and working on project delivery, service provision and product development. The job encompasses assisting in bidding, designing, implementing, testing, acceptance and after-sales support of technical solutions for international Commercial, Defence, Training & Simulation, and Ballistic Protection market sectors. This job is focussed on the mechanical design aspects of the projects, but you will work within the context of a multi-disciplinary and multi-site engineering team, delivering complete solutions to the customer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES



Job specific responsibilities

3D CAD design, producing innovative, robust and suitable designs. Integration of electrical design into mechanical assemblies. To translate designs into concise and clear workshop and supplier drawings with consideration of the manufacturing process. To provide technical knowledge to the tender process including the preparation of proposals, costing and plans based on the customer requirements. To conduct feasibility studies with accompanying engineering documentation. To provide technical support to operation, production and sales department. To help develop the knowledge and skills within the engineering team. Generate BoM structures on ERP software. Preparing and participating in design reviews (internal & with customers). Participate in drawing quality assurance. Contribute to R&D of new ideas and products. Liaise with project engineers and internal departments. Liaise with external customers and suppliers. Flexibility in occasionally working outside of core hours. Travel to Exsel group sites and travel internationally if required. Uphold company policies and health & safety standards.

GENERAL



Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to be flexible and work outside core hours on occasion. Travel to other Exsel group sites and occasional overseas travel may be required. Must be able to work in the UK without restrictions & meet UK government security vetting criteria, includes Standard DBS check.

HEALTH & SAFETY



Adhere to all relevant Health and safety procedures and observe safe working practices. All work to be conducted in a safe manner. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment to be used when required. Clear desk and equipment are to be cleared away at the end of a task and work area cleared up before the end of working day. All hand tools (if used) are to be maintained in a safe useable condition. To advise line manager of any Health & Safety issues promptly.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills The job holder will require a valid driving licence.

KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS



Degree/HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline. 5 years minimum industry experience (defence sector preferred). Competent in using 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred). Experience in producing drawings to BS8888. FEA or mathematical analysis experience preferred. Competent in Microsoft Office 365 products. Competent in writing technical reports, specifications and user documents. Experience using ERP software (ProgressPlus preferred). Familiarity in sheet metal and welded part manufacture. Valid UK driving licence required.
