We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Mechanical Engineers at the 423rd Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Alconbury, United Kingdom.

What will be your primary role?



The primary duties are to serve as a professional mechanical engineer, performing design, project programming and construction management/monitoring duties in support of a military installation. You will be responsible for performing planning and design work for substantial multi-phase new construction, renovations, and improvement projects for real property facilities, including utility systems, utilizing a professional knowledge of mechanical engineering. You will manage projects for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities and maintains surveillance over construction contractors utilizing a professional knowledge of mechanical engineering and knowledge of other engineering disciplines to ensure overall compliance with contracted specifications and schedules, plan programs and budgets and execute required projects in support of assigned programs. In addition, you will perform work in facilities operations and maintenance functions and provide consulting services and project coordination.

Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline (NVQ Level 6. BTEC Level 6, C&G Level 6) and specialized experience.

A combination of college level education (NVQ Level 5. BTEC Level 5, C&G Level 5) in an appropriate discipline and three years specialized experience directly related to the role.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?



1. Professional knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, principles and practices, and familiarity with architectural and other engineering disciplines.

2. Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction methods, practices and techniques, and contracting standards relating to facilities engineering to determine compliance with current codes, regulations and laws.

3. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable standards, regulations, procedures and laws, and current legislative issues.

4. Knowledge of the regulatory and statutory restrictions on expenditures of different types of funding.

5. Knowledge of automated data processing concepts and systems capabilities to be able to effectively accomplish assigned functions; to include knowledge of program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control, budget systems and management.

6. Knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques and skill in preparing project documentation, to include preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and skill in drafting sufficient to convey design concepts and ideas to formulate working drawings.

7. Ability to plan, conduct and record site/facilities surveys and inspection; to analyze, interpret, and apply results, rules, regulations, and procedures in a variety of situations and recommend timely and economical solutions.

8. Ability to plan and organize work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and architects; and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and maintain good working relationships.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?



You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Your hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week on a fixed schedule (Mon-Fri 0800-1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies. You may act as project liaison with other design agencies as required. You may be required to serve on A&E selection boards. You are required to complete any training or certifications deemed necessary by management to successfully perform the functions of the position. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
