Mechanical Engineer

Elma Electronic is a global designer and manufacturer of products for housing electronic systems. The company provides everything from components such as modular enclosures, cabinets, and backplanes up to complete standard or custom system platforms and the latest in Embedded Computing Products including Embedded "Application Ready" systems, SFF, SBCs, Ethernet Switches, Storage Modules, and Intelligent System Monitoring.

Founded in 1960, the Elma Group has production facilities and sales offices worldwide serving the mil/aero, industrial, research, telecom, medical, and commercial markets. The company offers a fast, flexible response to customer needs and an extensive practical knowledge in tailoring solutions to specific applications.

Due to expansion plans and continued growth, an exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Elma design team. The successful candidate must have creative and technical skills able to solve complex problems. Working on new and innovative designs, system level products and defence applications.

System Level Products, include but not limited to:

Embedded computing platforms 19" Racks & Cabinets Rugged enclosures Backplanes & PCBAs Rugged Power Supplies Build-to-Print / box build services.
Applications our products are used in:

C5ISR SIGINT Electronic Counter Measures Radar and Sonar Processing Air-traffic Management Air-Defence Systems Communications & Networking

Key responsibilities

Leading or being a member of project teams comprising a mix of mechanical and electrical engineers.

Mechanical design including metalwork and well as cable, thermal and EMC management.

Design of high-reliability, rugged systems for demanding aerospace and commercial applications.

Liaising with customers to ensure compliant product design within timescales and on budget.

Generation of manufacturing data, bills of materials and production routings.

Generation of inspection and compliance documentation (instructions, compliance matrices and verification documentation).

Maintaining and recording project data to ensure accurate records of design decisions, selections and changes during the design process.

Leading or attending design reviews, with both internal and external customers.

EMC and environmental Testing.

Ensuring compliance to UKCA / CE, RoHS and WEEE directives.

Supporting the Production and Test departments with technical advice.

Assisting in the enhancement and improvement of the internal engineering processes and procedures.

Liaising closely with the Sales and Commercial teams to support enquiries for customers.

Working within an ISO9001 / AS9100 quality system.

Other duties within the Engineering team as requested by the Engineering Manager.
