Position Overview / Summary:





Based in our Cambridge development centre and reporting to the Director of Technology the applicant would be involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages, through to production and support.



This role requires experience and skills across the full development lifecycle; from technical specification through design and verification, and into product integration and production.



This role requires a candidate capable of delivering highly robust and thoroughly tested mechanical design solutions as well as one capable of leading mechanical development on new product development projects.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):




Responsibility for the technical review and output of mechanical designs and systems; during the design process and at formal design reviews

To research new technologies and tools to provide Inca with a competitive advantage in the maintaining and improvement of mechanical systems

To provide training, coaching, and mentoring of mechanical team members

To drive the specification, design and detailing of mechanical components and assemblies to develop innovative mechanical solutions

To liaise closely with the Technology director and Project Team, identifying design requirements: function, reliability, cost, serviceability, and ensure the design integrates correctly

From the design in Solidworks, to produce timely assembly drawings and detail drawings specifying materials, machining tolerances and assembly notes

To produce bills of materials specifying bought out components and their source of supply

To obtain cost effective quotations from vendors for manufactured parts and place timely orders

Throughout the build process, providing technical support to the Manufacturing Team, Procurement and the Design Team, providing assistance with test and build procedures, and the transfer of the product to manufacturing and the customer

To ensure compliance with relevant design procedures and working instructions.

Defining appropriate, cost-effective manufacturing techniques

Understanding technical risks and devising and implementing mitigation plans

Ensuring new product designs meet all the necessary requirements and mandatory standards

Responsible for ensuring the mechanical design of new product developments are delivered to an acceptable quality and on time

Definition of product acceptance criteria & testing

Supporting product integration and acceptance testing

Technical support to end customers

Support the continuous improvement of processes and procedures

To become familiar with, and adhere to, the Company and Parent Company processes, policies and procedures



Who You Are (Qualifications):




Relevant degree (BEng / MEng / PhD) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

Experienced Mechanical Engineer with more than twelve years product development and manufacture experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary manufacturing environment

Experience of mechanisms, fluid handling, drives, jigs, fixtures, sheet metal, Welded frames, pneumatics, and safe machine design

Experienced Solidworks user, competent with the use of MS Office software and MRP systems

Sound knowledge of low to medium volume manufacturing techniques
