Role Overview



Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is looking to expand its South region MEP design team, and we are looking for a focused and reliable Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of Mechanical building services design. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a wide variety of projects, working closely with senior engineers, multidisciplinary colleagues, and clients to deliver robust, coordinated and compliant design solutions.

You will be responsible for delivering day-to-day mechanical engineering design on live projects, from feasibility through to detailed design and construction. You will produce calculations, coordinate mechanical systems with other disciplines and develop technical drawings and specifications that meet project requirements. This is a delivery-focused role suited to someone who enjoys working in detail and wants to grow within a supportive and technically driven team.



Role Responsibilities


Undertake mechanical engineering design for building services projects, including heating, ventilation, cooling, and domestic water systems Prepare and check calculations, drawings and specifications for concept, developed and technical design stages Coordinate mechanical services with other disciplines (architectural, structural, electrical, sustainability) Work closely with project leads and senior engineers to ensure technical compliance and quality assurance Support the development of design packages for tender and construction, including responding to contractor queries Contribute to internal technical reviews and team knowledge sharing Use tools such as IES, AutoCAD, and Revit to develop coordinated and accurate design outputs

Candidate Profile


The ideal candidate will be delivering customer service excellence, demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role with good commercial results and encompass a realistic selection of the following qualifications and attributes:
Demonstrable experience in delivering mechanical designs within a consultancy or design-and-build environment Strong technical skills and familiarity with design tools (e.g. IES, Revit, AutoCAD) A good understanding of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides, and industry standards Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple deadlines A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced team members

QualificationsDegree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering Ideally working towards professional registration (CIBSE or IMechE)



ExperienceTrack record in a similar role Project design responsibility from feasibility through to detailed design and construction Use of relevant MS and design software
