About the Role



As a Mechanical Engineer, you will report to a Team Leader and work within a multi-disciplined project team. You will deliver solutions to challenging design and integration problems to meet project requirements. You will contribute to challenging air vehicle design, integration and test activities throughout the engineering lifecycle in one or more of the following:




Structural design and / or mechanical system design Composite design and analysis System / payload integration and test Propulsion integration covering electric / ICE / small gas turbine Loom design and integration (including routing & clipping) Design For Manufacture and production support activities




Responsibilities



Communicate effectively with colleagues, taking ownership for planning and delivering own tasks, identifying and resolving local issues Analyse requirements, developing appropriate solutions that meet internal and external customer needs within required timescales Support preparation for internal / customer facing design reviews Produce engineering artifacts including design data and technical documentation, to required standards e.g. BS:8888 and good GD&T principles Maintain Configuration Management of own design data and written documentation to satisfy internal and external requirements Support manufacturing and build teams with engineering queries through close liaison and provision of updates to design data Contribute to item, sub-system, and air vehicle-level test activities, including flight test(s) and the production of formal test reports Develop design concepts that remove or minimise hazards, identifying and incorporating industry good practice as a minimum Proactively support initiatives to improve company culture in areas such as Health and Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement

About You





Qualifications



Bachelor's or Master's degree, with Honors, in an Engineering or Science subject


Skills and competencies




Self-starter who is willing to 'get stuck in', asking questions and learning on the job. Just 'gets it', seeing a task through to a successful conclusion for the customer.



Essential:


Excellent communicator who is able collaborate effectively at own level Self-starting with demonstrable self-organisational and planning skills Demonstrable problem-solving ability, working to tight timescales Knowledge of engineering life cycle(s) Proficient in use of SolidWorks or a comparable CAD package Awareness of design for manufacture principles Strong technical writing and presentation skills Demonstrable experience of performing first-order calculations to support design decisions Configuration Management experience in an engineering environment

Desirable:


Structural design, analysis and test, including composite materials Design, integration and test of electro-mechanical systems, including powerplants Electrical and avionics systems integration experience Experience of 3D printing, CNC milling and composite manufacture Experience of tool / jig design for composite moulds (or similar) Knowledge and application of civil / military aerospace standards Systems Engineering experience, preferably within an aerospace context
