We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Level 4 Apprentice Mechanical Engineering Technologist to work within our Mechanical Engineering Workshop, part of the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate will follow a 30-month programme of academic and on-the-job training that will open a career as an NHS Mechanical Engineering Technologist.
Mechanical Engineering is an essential clinical support service within our hospitals, providing design, manufacture and repair of a wide range of devices and components using a range of precision engineering tools, CNC mills and 3D printing. On successful completion of the programme, the Apprentice Mechanical Engineering Technologist will gain an apprenticeship qualification as an Engineering Manufacturing Technician at Level 4. The programme incorporates on-the-job training with protected time to study relevant engineering knowledge and skills (off-the-job), through a combination of day release and online learning whilst completing an educational placement at New City College in East London.
During the training period the Apprentice Mechanical Engineering Technologist will develop expertise through theoretical study (college education), technical and practical training to enable them to carry out design, manufacture and repair of a wide range of devices and component parts used in clinical services.
The Apprentice Mechanical Engineering Technologist will be able to build up their knowledge of the range of services provided by the Mechanical Engineering Workshop as they become competent in specific tasks, gradually increasing in complexity during the training period.
