Welin Lambie Ltd is a leading UK based designer, manufacturer and service provider of davits, winches and lifting appliances for the global marine and offshore industry.
We are currently seeking a
Mechanical Fitter
to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems. As a Fitter, you will be responsible for the accurate assembly of mechanical parts, products and assemblies for marine davits meeting precise specifications, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld throughout the process.
The role will be based in person at our facility in Brierley Hill.
Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 7.30 am 4.30 pm and Friday, 7.30 am 1.30 pm (40 hours per week).
Annual leave entitlement is 25 days plus bank holidays.
General
Duties/Key
Responsibilities:
Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure accurate assembly of mechanical parts, products and assemblies.
Competently use a variety of hand and power tools, measuring instruments ie micrometers, verniers.
Bolt, rivet or screw assembled components in place.
Modify or adjust parts as required.
Install hydraulic and other types of valves and piping.
Constructing and assembling mechanical systems ie gearboxes, drive shafts.
Utilise basic maths skills to measure and cut materials accurately and to complete standard engineering calculations.
Inspect and check fitted parts and sub-assemblies.
Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
Ensures their own work is delivered to the highest possible standards and in a timely fashion.
Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
Supports the team by addressing problems/issues that can be resolved within the department.
Suggests improvements to designs and work practices to help improve efficiency through the department.
Completes all paperwork that is needed for the job and ensures it is accurate and up to date.
Ability to work as part of a team but also on own initiative.
Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
Uphold quality, health, safety and environmental standards, ensuring alignment with the companys policies and the requirements of the relevant standards (Quality ISO9001, Health and Safety (ISO45001) and Environmental (ISO14001).
Essential Skills and Experience:
At least 5 years hands on experience as a mechanical fitter in an industrial/heavy engineering environment.
Understanding of engineering assembly drawings.
Understanding of engineering limits and fits.
Knowledge and experience of promoting safe working practices in a safety critical workplace.
Use of micrometers, bore mics, verniers and height gauges.
Basic understanding of mathematics.
