Straight-Line Civils are looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join a Maintenance Department for a client outside of Dorchester.
This Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems, instrumentation, and control systems across plant or site operations. You will ensure that all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform planned preventative and corrective maintenance on mechanical and instrumental systems
Diagnose faults across mechanical and HVAC systems
Install, commission, and calibrate instruments, including pressure, temperature, level, and flow sensors
Maintain and update control system documentation
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
Participate in plant shutdowns, upgrades, and project installations
Respond to emergency maintenance calls and support 24/7 operations if required
To work with the Maintenance Supervisor & Maintenance Manager to monitor and improve productivity and efficiencies on the plant equipment
To assist in reviewing and developing maintenance techniques and procedures and plant & processing capabilities
Desirable Qualifications:
HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering
NVQ L2 (minimum) in Mechanical maintenance
Mechanical machinery knowledge
Strong understanding of safe working practices and safety regulations
Tickets - Banksman, first aid, fire safety awareness, abrasive wheels, crane operator, harness training, fork lift license
Skills:
Problem solving and analytical skills with ability to prioritise key tasks and meet challenging deadlines
Flexibility and willingness to cover duty engineering call out
Experience with building services including HVAC systems also water and drainage systems
Experience Required:
4+ years in a similar EC&I technician role
Experience in heavy industry, power generation, oil and gas, water treatment, or similar fields preferred
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical and instrumentation drawings and schematics
May involve work in confined spaces, at heights, or in hazardous environments
Salary - 40,000
