Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer ready to tackle complex handling and lifting challenges? We're looking for a talented Mechanical Handling Engineer to join a growing technical team delivering innovative, fit-for-purpose solutions for high-profile engineering projects.
This role involves working across multiple systems, developing creative design solutions that meet stringent regulatory, budget, and schedule requirements. If you're passionate about solving complex problems and delivering engineering excellence, we want to hear from you.
Clearance: BPSS at baseline level (prior clearances will not transfer).
What You'll Do

  • Deliver mechanical design solutions for complex systems, ensuring compliance with budget, schedule, and quality targets.
  • Break down complex problems, presenting clear resolution options to aid decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain detailed work plans and progress reports.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders to maintain alignment and clarity.
  • Apply thorough knowledge of regulations (e.g., SOMSR 2008, CDM, PUWER, LOLER) to ensure compliance.
  • Review and check engineering drawings to industry standards (e.g., BS 8888, GPS).
  • Analyse and challenge engineering calculations in line with relevant standards (e.g., BS 2573).
  • Support the creation of manufacturing specifications and address manufacturing queries.
  • Contribute to high-quality technical documentation, EO packs, component quality requirements, and technical files.
  • Produce and check design substantiation and safety case deliverables.
About You - Essential
  • Proven ability to deliver mechanical design solutions on time and within budget.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • In-depth understanding of relevant machinery delivery regulations.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing standards and ability to review and check drawings.
  • Competence in reviewing and challenging engineering calculations.
Desirable
  • Experience applying engineering judgment in evidence- and risk-based decisions.
  • Ability to develop manufacturing specifications and resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Familiarity with EO packs, component quality requirements, and technical files.
  • Experience producing and checking safety case deliverables and design substantiation.
  • Knowledge of European Health, Safety, and Environmental Requirements (EHSRs).
