The South East Arc Welding Company Ltd (SEA) are a specialist contractor providing fabrication and maintenance support to industry. The focus of our midland's operation is supporting Cemex at their Rugby Cement Plant. SEA have a site team at the Cemex plant, where this role is primarily based, but we are looking to grow our customer based across the midlands and UK wide. We have a site office in Rugby and a head office in Kent.
As part of our development plans, we are looking to strengthen the capability of the Rugby Site team by recruiting a mechanical maintenance operative.
As part of this full-time role, you will use your skills and experience to carry out a mixture of planned maintenance activities, project works, shutdown activities and emergency repairs. The works are varied with work on the client site and in the workshop. Work is focussed on mechanical fitting tasks and will include tasks such as conveyor maintenance, changing gearboxes, checking equipment, pump maintenance, hydraulic systems, lubrication, bearing changes, rotary and slide valve works etc. The client site has the whole range of process plant equipment to maintain and improve from small motor gearbox units through to very large rotating machines.
The successful candidate will have a depth of experience in fitting and maintenance works, ideally an all-rounder with some skills in basic welding too. You will hold the appropriate City and Guilds / NVQ qualifications. Previous experience of working in a team would be of great benefit, particularly in a heavy industrial or challenging environments.
The need to ensure all work is planned, has the correct safety documentation, is correctly executed and documented is becoming increasingly important. SEA's have implemented an online management system which manages job flow and captures job information. Our team members assist with this process by reading documentation, signing on to risk assessments / method statements (RAMS), carrying out point of Work assessments and capturing job info using mobile devices. As part of our team, you will be trained to use our system.
Safety is key to the services we provide; we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a practical understanding of how to work safely and comply with requirements, whilst working within site constraints. You will have a good personal safety record from your previous employments.
Key areas of responsibility would be:
Carrying out fitting and mechanical maintenance tasks ensuring safety and quality.
Completion of all compliance management elements - signing on to permits, isolations, RAMS, completing point of work assessments, equipment checks, etc.
Capturing job information and photographs.
Assisting with planning tasks and the method of works, e.g. how to: do it safely, save time, minimise materials, do the best job for the situation, maximise machine up-time etc.
Working with the office to ensure all information and data is captured and procedures followed.
Working as part site teams to cover the required works.
The role is full time and paid by the hour. Normal working hours would be 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday, although some flexibility will be required. There is potential for paid over-time with some weekend and extended shifts being required to meet the Cemex site's and other clients' needs particularly during shutdown or breakdown works. There is also potential for some shift work providing temporary cover for the client's shift maintenance roles. The role is entitled to 20 days paid holiday per year plus Bank Holidays. The role is based at our site office situated within the Cemex Cement Plant. We offer attractive rates of pay.
