Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic
Operations Director - Mechanical Services
to lead our mechanical contracting division. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of mechanical services projects, from initial estimating and tendering through to final handover. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strategic oversight, technical knowledge, commercial acumen, and exceptional team management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Oversight:
Lead and manage mechanical services projects across commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to specification.
Estimating & Tendering:
Oversee or directly manage the preparation of estimates, bids, and tenders; ensure competitive and profitable proposals.
Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute business strategies to drive growth, improve profitability, and enhance operational efficiency.
Team Leadership:
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of project managers, engineers, and site staff.
Client Management:
Maintain strong client relationships and act as the senior point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.
Commercial Management:
Monitor project finances, risk, and contract compliance; ensure accurate reporting and forecasting.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure high standards of workmanship, compliance with industry regulations, and health & safety protocols.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the division.
Skills & Qualifications:
Proven leadership experience in mechanical contracting or building services.
Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Experience managing the full project lifecycle - estimating, design coordination, procurement, delivery, commissioning, and handover.
Commercial and contractual awareness, with experience in managing budgets and P&L responsibilities.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (degree preferred).
Chartered status or working toward (desirable).
