Mechanical - Production Support Operative
Location: Devonport, Plymouth, Devon

gap personnel are recruiting for a hands-on Mechanical Production Support Operative to join dynamic teams working across naval surface ships, submarines, and factory-based operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical background and a passion for precision engineering in a defence or marine environment.
Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the assembly, maintenance, and repair of mechanical components and systems.
• Support production teams with tooling, materials, and technical guidance.
• Carry out inspections, fault diagnosis, and basic testing of mechanical systems.
• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, management, and quality teams to resolve production issues.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in mechanical fitting, maintenance, and production support.
• Experience on marine platforms (surface ships or submarines) or in industrial manufacturing/maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of health & safety practices in high-risk environments.
• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Desirable:

• Experience in defence, shipbuilding, or heavy engineering sectors.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and propulsion systems.
• SC Security clearance or eligibility to obtain it.

Hours & Pay:
15.00ph to 21.00ph
Monday to Friday, 0700am - 1500pm (35hours)
