Mechanical Project Engineer
to support the design and delivery of utilities, process, and energy projects across complex industrial manufacturing environments.
This is a
client-facing role
, offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge
low and zero-carbon technologies
and the opportunity to work with global manufacturing clients.
The Role
As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will support the
engineering design, analysis, and delivery
of utilities and process projects across industrial sites in the UK, Italy, and internationally. A significant proportion of your work will focus on integrating
energy-efficient and decarbonisation solutions
into established manufacturing facilities.
You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing to technical design, calculations, documentation, and site-based project activities.
Key Responsibilities
Support the design and delivery of industrial
utilities and process engineering projects
.
Develop and review
Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
and
Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
.
Perform engineering calculations, including
energy and mass balances
, equipment sizing, and pressure system design.
Select and specify mechanical and process equipment such as
pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, refrigeration, and compressed gas systems
.
Assist with the design and assessment of
pressure systems
, including pressure relief requirements.
Support the integration of
low and zero-carbon technologies
into existing industrial facilities.
Prepare high-quality
technical reports, calculations, and client presentations
.
Manage allocated tasks independently, ensuring delivery to agreed deadlines and budgets.
Support site activities and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients.
Experience & Skills
1-3 years' experience in an
industrial manufacturing, engineering design, energy, or sustainability environment
.
Understanding of industrial process systems, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, refrigeration, and compressed gases.
Ability to analyse existing systems and identify practical, energy-efficient improvement opportunities.
Experience producing or supporting the development of
PFDs and P&IDs
.
Competence in equipment sizing and selection.
Knowledge of
pressure systems
and pressure relief design principles.
Drafting experience using
AutoCAD 2D or SolidWorks
.
Awareness of
UK and/or EU legislation
relating to mechanical and process system design.
Strong written communication skills with experience producing professional reports and presentations.
Genuine interest in
sustainability, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation
.
Proactive, solutions-focused approach with a desire to develop technically and professionally.
Qualifications & Additional Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in
Mechanical, Chemical, Energy, or related Engineering discipline
(minimum 2:1 or equivalent).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in
English
.
Right to work in
either the UK or Italy
, depending on preferred location.
Full driving licence and access to a car.
Italian language skills are beneficial for Italy-based candidates.
Knowledge of
German
and/or experience in the
pharmaceutical sector
is advantageous but not essential.
