Calderdale strives to develop our community to improve the local economy and has pledged to also improve its portfolio of greener buildings towards becoming net Carbon Neutral by 2038.

An opportunity exists for a Mechanical Project Specialist (Career Graded) to join the Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service and make a positive impact towards delivering these goals.

The Council's Corporate Asset and Facilities Management (CAFM) Service is responsible for the Council's large and diverse property portfolio: around 300 buildings including changing rooms, leisure facilities, office buildings and many heritage buildings such as the iconic Halifax Town Hall. The Service's Facilities Management (FM) Technical Team is responsible for all technical resources (internal and external), required to deliver an effective maintenance and development service for this property portfolio.

This is a specialist team with key expertise, which acts as an intelligent client responsible for determining, specifying, commissioning and managing the full range of specialist works required to maintain such a large, diverse and complex portfolio of properties. It is also responsible for monitoring the Council's buildings and drawing up programmes of work across the estate, ensuring that all planned, programmed and reactive repair works are delivered with a customer focus, on time and within budget. The team has oversight of the delivery of capital projects and significant building works, responsible for substantial capital budgets as well as an annual revenue budget of circa 2m.

This exciting role offers the opportunity for an ambitious candidate with an excellent level of mechanical knowledge to join our team and develop their qualifications and skills to a higher level. The post is responsible for providing technical mechanical advice in relation to maintenance, repairs and projects, for monitoring and quality checking of mechanical works, the delivery of projects including being a key member of our Decarbonisation projects, carrying out Condition Surveys and assisting the Lead for Technical FM in building a forward programme of future works in line with the department budgets.

Candidates with experience from a range of mechanical backgrounds, such as project management, installation, maintenance or in a supervisory role, are encouraged to apply as the career grade provision of the post provides opportunities for the right candidate to gain further qualifications up to degree level. Applications from qualified Mechanical Project Engineers are also welcomed, the salary offered will reflect the candidate's knowledge and experience demonstrated in their application and at interview. Knowledge of Condition Surveys and Asset lifecycle modelling would be advantageous, but a keen and enthusiastic attitude with a desire to work effectively as part of a team is key. The post offers a hybrid working model, predominantly home-based with travel to our sites as required and attendance at virtual and in-person meetings across the Borough.
