Job Description

As part of our ongoing growth and multi-million pound investment, we are recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Section Engineer to join our Engineering team based at our melt shop, SMACC.

As Mechanical Section Engineer, you will ensure mechanical engineering management and standards are maintained. All planned maintenance activities, Safe Working Practices and documents are developed, reviewed, and carried out to ensure that the plant meets all appropriate industry safety standards.

Responsibilities



The design, development, and maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment to improve plant operation and reliability. To continually develop planned and preventative maintenance systems including the creation of schedules and routines for shift-based teams to complete Planning and co-ordinating mechanical engineering operations during plant shutdowns inclusive of major maintenance activities. Contributing to annual and progressive plans for mechanical maintenance budget control. Lead fault investigations for repeatable delays and failures and define engineering solutions. Act as a subject matter expert for all failures, use in-depth knowledge to solve difficult engineering failures. Negotiating and managing key mechanical maintenance contracts. Liaising with external suppliers and contractors to provide solutions to production and engineering challenges. Accountable for budgeting, forecasting, and receiving competitive quotes for all work to be undertaken. Development of plant to improve performance and reliability. Providing the necessary documentation to cover all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental Control inclusive of Permit Systems, Safe Working Procedures, Isolation/Immobilisation and Environmental Management Systems etc. Providing a second-line maintenance service for plant breakdowns.

Skills required



Driven to work in a demanding and challenging environment. Educated to an HNC level or have proven mechanical experience in a large steelmaking environment. Be able to demonstrate an awareness of a melting shop environment. Able to demonstrate a high level of practical mechanical hands-on skills. Able to lead, coach and develop other employees. Able to demonstrate a good knowledge of continuous improvement programmes, particularly planned maintenance activities. A good communicator, both verbal & written. Able to demonstrate good planning skills and problem-solving abilities. Able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of the health and safety and environmental policies and plans.

Pay: 45,000.00 per year
