About the role


------------------


We're looking for a technician with mechanical engineering experience to join our field operations team, supporting the safe and efficient running of the UK and Ireland's gas transmission network. This is a hands-on role where your mechanical expertise will be key to delivering a range of specialist services, which include under pressure drilling, flow stopping, valve repair, recompression, and in-line inspection on high-pressure pipelines, above-ground installations, and compressor stations.

What you'll be doing

Installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment in challenging environments. Operating within Safe Systems of Work and conducting risk assessments. Ensuring tools, vehicles, and equipment are maintained, tested, and calibrated to meet legislative standards. Interpreting technical requirements and collaborating with engineers to plan and execute jobs. Using digital systems to record working time, materials, and job progress. Supporting depot-based activities such as developing new techniques and assisting with safety inspections. Participating in a standby rota once fully trained, typically every couple of months.

About you

You'll be a multi-skilled problem solver who thrives in the field and takes pride in doing things safely and right first time. You'll bring practical experience in mechanical operations, ideally in areas in like pressure systems, pipe fitting, or damage assessment, and confidently be able to interpret technical requirements. You'll be collaborative, adaptable, and digitally literate, with a proactive approach to learning and contributing to team success.



You'll need to live within ~40-50 miles (approx. 1 hour) of the Ambergate site and be able to be on site 5 days a week. Occasionally, you may be required to work away from home as and when required (which will include overnight stays), as some jobs can be on sites anywhere across the UK or Ireland.

Key requirements & experience


----------------------------------

Time-served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme/evidence of experience) in a mechanical discipline BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in a mechanical discipline Experience in industries such as (but not limited to) FMCG, utilities, military, or aviation Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or similar process) industry - desirable Full UK car driving licence

Security clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
