Job description
The Mechanical Technician will provide operational support to all current and future project activity within the Cranfield Lab and workshop facilities. This will include but not exclusively cover build, commission, maintain and operate all test rigs and facilities to meet the customers expectations and using current methods and best practice. Liaising with engineering and project management team to take design drawings and details and build measurement systems, this would typically be in extreme pressure, flow or heat conditions.
You will be required to:
Assemble and install mechanical components, machinery, and equipment in accordance with technical drawing, piping and instrumentation diagram and technical specifications
Operate the various test rigs and fixtures to perform validation and verification tests on customers assemblies
Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on test rigs, machinery and specialized systems
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues, identifying and replacing faulty parts
Collaborate with other team members and stake holders to ensure efficient and right first time delivery of systems
Health and Safety is paramount, and all activities will be undertaken with safety as the driving focus
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and calibration activities
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of machinery, equipment and test rigs to ensure optimal operation
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and diagnose problems in machinery and test fixtures
Repair / replace worn or malfunctioning parts and equipment
Read and interpret engineering drawing, documentation and technical manuals
Collaborate with other technical teams to ensure the succesful deliver of project outcomes
Ensure all safety standards and regulations are maintained to create a safe working environment
Create detailed documentation of all activities to ensure work is traceable and calibrated and project outcomes are reported back to the project stake holders
Profile
Experience:
Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter or similar role
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in using hand and power tools
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Physical stamina and ability to work in various conditions (e.g., confined spaces, heights, etc.)
Familiarity with working in ISO or similar procedure environment
Enthusiastic and committed, willing to work within tight timescales
Education:
GCSEs in Maths and English
BTEC
Apprenticeship in Engineering Maintenance at NVQ Level 3
Experience within a manufacturing or service environment
