OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To directly support the engineering function of an upper-tier COMAH site by being responsible for the mechanical maintenance of industrial process equipment.




SCOPE OF THE POSITION





To be responsible for maintaining all mechanical equipment across the site, specifically:


Breakdown response and repairs. Planned, preventative maintenance. Project support with new installations. Supervising external and embedded contractors where necessary.



MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES





KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS






Perform routine maintenance and compliance inspections/checks of process equipment. Undertake fault finding and repair on mechanical, pneumatic and rotating plant systems. Conduct planned, preventive maintenance tasks consistently and diligently. Proactively interrogate CMMS and liaise with engineering management to plan reactive and PPM work. Liaise with and direct external contractors undertaking work on site. Anticipate mechanical spares requirements, liaising with vendors and engineering management to maintain appropriate stores. Carry out work under permit within Safe System of Work framework. Ensure all health, safety, and environmental regulations and conditions are adhered to. Maintain accurate record of work carried out within CMMS, including tasks completed, parts used and equipment condition. Work to and in compliance with written maintenance and operational procedures. To maintain good housekeeping standards across the whole site.

Technical Skills

Preferred




Experience working to RAMS within a safe system of work. Industrial pipe fitting. Pump maintenance. Comfortable operating a computerised maintenance management system (SAP or similar). CompEx Ex11 Mechanical. IPAF licence. CSE card.



Required


Mechanical fitting and troubleshooting experience. Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, schematics & technical instructions. Computer literacy: proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Understanding of mechanical isolation procedures.

Level 4/5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related subject

A recognised Level 3 apprenticeship or vocational qualification in engineering or related subject.




HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES







Commit to the highest standards of process safety, in line with upper-tier COMAH site status. Maintain compliance with relevant HSE procedures and legislation to assist in maintaining a safe workplace. Ensure that accidents or near misses are reported in line with company procedure. To facilitate any personal health and safety training necessary.

Good interpersonal skills and communications skills - able to communicate technical information and liaise with different levels of management, staff, contractors and suppliers.



Strong problem-solving skills, with a positive can-do attitude and proactive approach to solving issues. Can work alone using own initiative. Works well under pressure, whilst maintaining a logical approach. Can demonstrate understanding and application of maintenance 'best practice' techniques. Understands the importance of planned and predictive maintenance. Willing to learn and undertake additional on and off-site training as site needs dictate. Physically fit, and able to work at high level (some lifting is a requirement of this role)
