Global Test Engineering is seeking to recruit a Test Engineer (Level 2) to work in the Manchester Mechanical Test Laboratory on a permanent basis.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager in charge of the laboratory the Test Engineer will be responsible for testing mechanical seals, couplings and associated systems. This will involve designing rig components, accurately measuring seal components prior to testing, seal assembly and fitment to the test rig with associated support systems. Conduct testing in line with internal and external test procedures. Record all test parameters during the test and present test data in a graphical report format. Examine seals post-test and report findings. Liaise with internal/external customers. Assist with the everyday running and function of the laboratory. Work on lab development and upgrade projects when required.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Test mechanical seals and John Crane associated products in line with the agreed test procedure.
  • Accurately measure components pre and post-test.
  • Present test data in written and graphical formats.
  • Support engineering initiatives and projects in the laboratory.
  • Liaise with internal and external customers when required.
  • Design test components and model using 3D CAD.
  • Produce accurate sectioned 2D manufacturing drawings with geometric tolerances.
  • Design and build pneumatic and hydraulic test circuits with the appropriate components.
  • Follow company safety guidelines and procedures.

The Individual
  • Typically an accredited Bachelor\'s Degree (UK class 2.1) in engineering or science. Proven post graduate relevant experience.
  • Good mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be familiar with Solid Edge, SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 3D modelling and 2D drafting skills. Able to produce quality manufacturing detail drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of FEA (Ansys)
  • Solid background with rotating equipment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of low voltage electrical systems and instrumentation.
  • A good understanding of fluid mechanics and pneumatic systems.
